Maryland Mother Sentenced to 50 Years for Shooting Her 13-Year-Old Daughter

A Maryland mother will spend the next several decades behind bars after being sentenced for a shocking act of violence against her own child.
According to authorities, 33-year-old Talecka C. Brown of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, was sentenced in June 2026 to 50 years in prison for shooting her then 13-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute inside their home in 2024.
Prosecutors say the incident unfolded after the teenager returned home from school and became involved in an argument with her mother. During the confrontation, Brown allegedly shot the child in the back of the neck as the girl was walking down a staircase.
Despite suffering a life-threatening injury, the teenager survived the shooting and required extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Investigators say the violence did not end with the shooting. According to court records, Brown allegedly attempted to cover up the crime by instructing her daughter to tell law enforcement that an intruder had entered the home and shot her. Authorities later determined that account was false after reviewing surveillance footage, which reportedly showed that no unknown individuals entered the residence around the time of the shooting.
The evidence presented during the case ultimately led to Brown's conviction in late 2025 on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Prince George's County State's Attorney Tara Jackson announced the sentence, describing the case as a devastating betrayal of the trust that exists between a parent and child.
The case has drawn strong reactions online, with many expressing disbelief that a mother would inflict such violence on her own daughter and then allegedly attempt to conceal the truth from investigators.
As Brown begins serving her sentence, attention now turns to the young survivor, whose resilience and recovery have become a central focus in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
