A Bristol Borough man is facing a criminal homicide charge and several additional felony offenses following the death of his wife inside their Wood Street home, according to authorities and court records.
Michael P. Myers, who is approaching his 60th birthday, has been charged in connection with the death of his 54-year-old wife, Dawn Myers.
Authorities allege Dawn was strangled with multiple men's neckties inside an upstairs bedroom of the couple's home.
The case unfolded early Thursday morning, only hours after Myers had reportedly been released from a behavioral health facility.
According to court records, Myers was arraigned by an on-call district judge on charges including murder, strangulation, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, intimidation of a witness or victim and related offenses.
He was denied bail due to the homicide charge.
Police Called to Wood Street Home
Bristol Borough police were dispatched to the couple's Wood Street residence at approximately 6:28 a.m. following a report of a possible deceased person.
According to the probable-cause allegations, officers were met by Dawn's son, who told authorities he had discovered his mother dead in a second-floor bedroom.
Police entered the residence and found Dawn lying on the bedroom floor. Authorities said multiple men's neckties were wrapped around her neck.
Investigators subsequently began piecing together what happened inside the home using witness information, surveillance footage and data from the residence's security and alarm systems.
Security System Becomes Key Part of Investigation
According to the criminal complaint, investigators reviewed security information that they say helped establish activity inside and outside the residence.
Authorities reported that surveillance footage showed no one entering or leaving the home between the evening of August 12 and approximately 6:02 a.m. on August 13.
At approximately 6:02 a.m., Myers was reportedly captured leaving through the front door, locking it behind him and entering a vehicle parked outside.
Investigators also obtained information from the home's alarm provider concerning its seven-zone security system.
According to the complaint, the system could register movement in different areas of the residence. Authorities said the system included both perimeter protection and interior motion detection, depending upon whether it was placed in "stay" or "away" mode.
Records cited by investigators indicate a Zone 4 motion sensor associated with the living room was triggered at approximately 6:02 a.m.
The alarm company's dispatcher reportedly attempted to contact Dawn and Myers using telephone numbers on file but received no response.
The complaint describes a rapid sequence of activity over the following several minutes.
At approximately 6:03 a.m., a message was reportedly left on Dawn's phone. Around 6:05 a.m., the dispatcher reportedly attempted to reach Myers.
By approximately 6:06 a.m., the alarm company had contacted Bristol Borough Police, with the dispatcher reportedly speaking with police personnel at approximately 6:07 a.m.
Additional alarm activity and attempts to reach emergency contacts reportedly followed between approximately 6:08 and 6:11 a.m.
Investigators said an alarm-company representative later explained that no additional alarms were triggered inside the residence after that sequence of events. Authorities allege the system would either have needed to be disarmed or there would have been no movement within areas protected by active sensors.
According to the complaint, a witness also reported seeing Myers outside the residence shortly after 6 a.m. Police noted that no perimeter alarm was triggered when he allegedly left the house, which investigators believe indicates the system had been turned off before his departure.
Surveillance Captured Dawn the Previous Evening
Investigators also reviewed footage from a Ring camera at the residence.
According to court records, Dawn was last recorded on the home's rear camera at approximately 6:41 p.m. Wednesday while letting the family's dogs into the backyard.
At least one of the dogs reportedly remained outside until authorities arrived roughly 12 hours later.
When Myers was detained, court records state that officers observed visible injuries on him, including scratches and abrasions to his face, arms and back.
Recent Behavioral Health Treatment Detailed in Court Records
Court records also describe events involving Myers in the days immediately preceding Dawn's death.
According to information attributed to Dawn's son in the court filings, Dawn told him that Myers had been hospitalized Tuesday after allegedly threatening to harm himself.
He was reportedly released Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m. after being assessed as presenting a low risk of harm, according to the account contained in court records.
Only hours later, authorities allege Dawn was killed inside the couple's home.
The criminal complaint, however, does not establish that Myers' reported behavioral-health history caused the alleged killing. Investigators also did not identify a motive in the information reported from the probable-cause documents.
The records cited in the reporting did not detail what medications, if any, Myers may have been taking at the time.
Case Now Moves Through the Courts
Myers remains charged with criminal homicide and related offenses. The allegations contained in a criminal complaint represent the prosecution's accusations and have not yet been proven at trial.
As the case proceeds, investigators may provide additional information concerning the circumstances surrounding Dawn Myers' death and the events leading up to it.
