A devastating late-night fire has left Bangkok reeling after flames tore through Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a popular live music pub in the city's Chatuchak district, just minutes from the world-famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. The blaze erupted shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 12, 2026, turning what should have been an evening of music and entertainment into one of Thailand's deadliest nightlife tragedies in nearly two decades.
As of Monday, authorities have confirmed 27 people have died, including 18 women and 9 men, while 63 others were hospitalized, with 22 victims remaining in critical condition. What Happened?

Thick black smoke quickly engulfed the building as flames raced across the ceiling, which investigators say was covered with highly flammable soundproofing foam.

Although city officials say the venue had previously passed a fire safety inspection, investigators are now determining whether conditions inside the establishment had changed since that inspection took place.

Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the scene within hours of the disaster, meeting with rescue workers and investigators while promising a thorough investigation.
Authorities are focusing on several key questions, including:
Whether electrical equipment triggered the blaze.
Whether emergency exits were blocked or inaccessible.
Whether highly flammable decorations accelerated the fire.
Whether negligence contributed to the high number of casualties.
As part of the investigation, district officials have ordered the venue closed for 30 days while forensic teams continue collecting evidence and determining whether criminal charges may be warranted.

Family members gathered outside hospitals and Bangkok's forensic institute throughout Monday, anxiously awaiting news about loved ones. Buddhist monks also visited the scene to offer prayers as investigators continued removing evidence from the charred building.
