A decades-long family dispute over an inherited home has turned deadly, leaving one woman dead and her uncle behind bars facing multiple charges.
Authorities say 58-year-old Michael Foster, a Jamaican man living in New York, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his 39-year-old niece, Julia Anderson, in the Wakefield section of the Bronx.

According to investigators, Anderson had just completed her 4:00 p.m. to midnight shift caring for developmentally disabled adults, a job she reportedly held for 17 years, when she returned home during the early morning hours of July 13, 2026.
Police say Anderson was sitting inside her Jeep Grand Cherokee on Murdock Avenue, parked across the street from the family home, when she was ambushed. She was shot twice in the chest shortly after midnight and died from her injuries.
Investigators believe the killing stemmed from a bitter dispute involving a two-family home in Mount Vernon, New York, that once belonged to Foster's mother, Icilda Foster, who reportedly passed away in 2023.

According to reports, Icilda left the property to her eldest grandchild, Julia Anderson, a decision that allegedly fueled years of resentment.
Authorities say Foster believed Anderson wrongfully obtained ownership of the property. Last year, he reportedly accused his niece of forging his signature on the deed, resulting in Anderson's arrest. However, those charges were later dismissed, and Anderson subsequently filed a lawsuit against investigators, alleging they relied on what she described as the "unvetted statements of a known felon with a violent history."
That "violent history" has now drawn renewed attention.
According to investigators, Foster was previously convicted in 1988 in the fatal shooting of Calvin Reed, the father of former NFL running back Ray Rice. Foster served prison time in that case before eventually being released.
Police arrested Foster on July 15, 2026. During a search of the Mount Vernon property, investigators reportedly recovered an AR-15 rifle, two semi-automatic pistols, and a revolver.
He has been charged with:
Murder
Manslaughter
Ten counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon
Foster was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court and is currently being held without bail.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
