🌎 INTERNATIONAL CRIME — BANGKOK, THAILAND
A 29-year-old American man identified by Thai authorities as Alexander Troy Lopez has been arrested after allegedly stealing from a convenience store and attacking a Thai police officer with a box cutter in Bangkok.
According to Thai media reports citing police, Pol. Lt. Prasarn Somkane, a 56-year-old deputy traffic inspector, encountered the incident while patrolling after citizens alerted him to the alleged theft. When the officer attempted to intervene, Lopez allegedly resisted and slashed the officer across the neck with a box cutter before fleeing.
The injured officer was rushed to Central Hospital and was later reported to be in stable condition.
Bangkok police launched a search and apprehended Lopez less than 30 minutes later, reportedly recovering a yellow box cutter believed to have been used in the attack.
Authorities reported that a preliminary urine screening detected methamphetamine. Additional medical testing was reportedly being conducted to confirm the result.
Lopez reportedly faces serious charges, including attempted murder of an officer performing his duties and robbery-related offenses. Any additional drug-related charges would depend on confirmatory testing.
